Kilangin Falls, Mount Banahaw

Most of the time the decision we make while we are drunk has a very surprising result. Most of time those decisions are things we regret. Well, this time I am very proud to share what happened. 🙂

Saturday evening after attending a party, I dropped my nephew off at their house. My sister in law opened the gate and let him in. She asked me “We are going to Kilangin Falls tomorrow, wanna join us?”

Tipsy from the party, it didn’t register to me exactly what she said. Lol! (Sorry Che!) I just know she’s inviting me somewhere. Then I said, no I’d rather take a rest. My son asked for my permission if he could join them. Seeing his excitement, I decided we are going to join them. 🙂

I slept that night still not knowing where exactly we are going the next day! lol! 😀

Cockcrow

We woke up late! Waaaahhh! I immediately pulled myself out the bed and hastily prepare our breakfast. Half way through cooking my brother arrived at our house and tried to pick me and my son up.

I told him we just woke up and we will just follow to the meet up point. I quickly packed our food and we left our house.

Coordinates

Where is Kilangin Falls located? Well, depends on who you ask. Some will say it is in Majayjay, others will say it is in Liliw, Laguna. One thing is certain, it is in majestic Mt. Banahaw.

There are main two entry points to get to Kilangin Falls, there’s one in Liliw (Brgy. Novaliches) and the other is the more famous route in Majayjay.

Please refer to this blog on how to get to Majayjay. From Majayjay you can hire a tricycle to take you to Barangay Bukal.

You can also go to Liliw to get to Brgy. Bukal. Take a bus going to Lucena and get off at San Pablo City. The fare from Cubao or Pasay is P130. From San Pablo City take a jeepney going to Liliw. The terminal is just across Saint Paul the First Hermit Cathedral. It will cost you P30 pesos for the ride. From Liliw, hire a tricycle to take you to Brgy. Bukal, Majayjay.

Tips:

• Haggle with the tricycle driver. Don’t say yes right away. If they don’t agree. Haggle more. lol!
• Fill those belly up. In almost every street of Liliw you’ll find a place where you can eat.
• Less is more. There’s no place to camp nor cook your food at Kilangin Falls. So just bring the basics.

We took the route to Majayjay via the “backdoor” which ended up a not so good idea. We started our journey at Brgy. Ilayang San Roque in Liliw. We literally climbed up to get to the boundary of Majayjay and Liliw. There was nothing to hold on to and we just depended on our legs and lungs powers. 🙂

The good thing about it was the spectacular view. The foot of the mountain is draped by bitter gourd plantations and it sways with the natural landscape. Assortment of towering trees contrast with the bright blue sky.

Unfortunately, it was a counter productive route. We were under the impression that the path leads directly to Kilangin Falls. We ended up at the road of Brgy. Bukal. We could have rode a tricycle and reached Brgy. Bukal easier and faster. It was still a great route though! A stunning treat. 🙂

Course

The Brgy. Bukal road is now under construction. Almost 1/3 of the way is done. Getting in is easy. There are metal pipe hand rails on the side of the path. Some of the steep steps are already cemented. From the drop off point until Kilangin falls it a good 45 minutes to an hour journey.

Its okay to bring a car to get to Brgy. Bukal. There’s allotted parking lot for tourist. There are residents that would allow you to park your car in their garage for a small fee.

Courage

Spectrum of sunshine, vigorous tress and crystal clear water makes this site worth visiting. Even just for few hours.

After long walk, the water is indeed invigorating. The spring water comes out of the rock wall and it is very refreshing to drink.

Kilangin falls is approximately 3 storey high. The walls are coated by different shades of green moss. Exuberant trees filter the sunshine and cap the top falls. There’s not much water falling out because its summer. I barely noticed it when I initially got there. My brother had to point it out to me. In this case, its not the waterfall that you should come after. It is the pool of icy blue water.

Call

A couple of years ago, my brother and his friends camped out at Kilangin falls. He said there are wild monkeys living in the area.

Now, the population of tourist is rapidly growing. Sooner or later this place will change and be affected one way or the other. When I was there I already seen several cigarette butts, cigarette packs and some plastics trashed irresponsibly. I hope LGU of Majayjay and Liliw would launch a project that will protect and maintain the cleanliness of Kilangin Falls.

As one of the locals, we love that our place is getting some recognition from adventurers. But please, please, take care of our home. Leave only your footprints. Only take pictures and memories with you.
